Well I missed mani monday but I am making up for it with this awesome combo for you all! I have been sitting on these Forever21 Love & Beauty glitter polishes for a couple of months now. I finally pulled them out monday night and I am so happy I did!

I started with 2 coats of Zoya, Verushka which is one of Zoya's matte velvet colors. Its a rich warm forest green and when topped with clear it comes alive with beautiful shimmer. I then added 1 coat of Forever21 Love & Beauty, Turquoise. It has tiny holographic circle glitter and large hex glitter. With an almost tone-on-tone color combo it adds a richness and depth to make this combo look awesome! I was so pleased with the results. I think it's perfect for the holiday season. I hope you all enjoy.

Have any of you out there tried the Forever21 Love & Beauty polishes? thoughts?

Mani Monday: The Galaxy is on Orion's Belt

Galaxy nails are all the rage on the nail blogosphere. As much as I love layering, I have not been able to really master them. Mine always end up looking muddy and messy. (Let be honest, most of the people in that google image search have the same bad results.) I finally was able to fudge it a little by using a glittery color that I have had in my stash for about a year.

To get this week's nails I started with 2 coats of Zoya, Kelly, a cool-toned medium dark-grey. I then applied 2 coats of NYX NPG 162 Frizzy Spots, a black jelly base with large holographic hex glitters and itty bitty holographic hex glitters. I topped it all off with a few coats of Seche Vite, Fast Dry Top Coat. They're a little less galaxy and a little more stary night. Enjoy!

PS. The NYX color needs to go over a base color. On it's own it looks really weird. It works best over medium and dark colors. Not so much on light colors.

Anyone else excited for Men In Black 3?

Shatter, crackle, whatever you call it, and whether you like it or not, there is no escaping this nail trend. I wasn’t a huge fan of it when it was big in the 90’s and I’m still not today. This is mostly because of the color options. Back in the day there were two choices, white and black. Now, it seems like every polish brand is coming out with their own line of crackle effects thus increasing the color options tremendously. Well kittens, I’m still not sold. I like to be in control of my own colors so I of course DIY’d a work around.

How’d I do it?

Mani Monday: Dual Personality

Two of my favorite nail colors for the summer are peachy orange and girly pink-purple. When I sat down to do my nails for the week I couldn't decide between the two colors so I did them both! The two colors I used were GOSH, Peachy and ZOYA, Areej. I switched up the way I usally do stripes and did a half and half pattern. Dual personalities, both love summer. Enjoy! (ps. I had to help Areej out in photoshop a bit to get the color to look correct.)

Get Lady Gaga's Velvet Nails from the Judas Video

We interrupt your regularly scheduled mani monday to bring you a very special Lady Gaga inspired DIY nail art creation.

While I don't think Judas is Lady Gaga's best video to date (Bad Romance is unbeatable in my book), I do think the beauty world can take a few little gems away from the creative direction and styling. The one thing that caught my attention right off the bat was her amazing long, embellished velveted nails. Now, 99.9% of people could not function properly with 2 inch nails covered in velvet and adorned with linking chains. I have simplified the concept to just textured, velveted nails.

Supplies:
Zoya, Veruschka matte velvet nail polish
A dark green matte that dries quickly. The color doesn't matter as much as the finish. You don't really want to see glossy bits peaking out from under the velvet. If you don't use a matte, it's not the end of the world.

• Flocking material by Doodlebug Design Inc. I chose black, but it comes a wide range of colors and can be purchased at craft or scrabooking stores.

• A small bowl or ramekin with a wide opening

• Paper, for easy cleanup

• Fluffy makeup brush (optional) Be sure to wash it afterwards before using it again for makeup.

Do be aware that these nails will probably get messed up pretty quickly so they're great for a night out, but don't make it through showers very well. The flocking does come off easily with nail polish remover; you may need to use more cotton balls than usual.

Would you rock velvet nails?

Indian culture has some of the most amaizing colors and embellishishments in the world. This nail design was inspired by beautiful Indian textiles. I started out with just two coats of Zoya, Areej but of course I had up the drama ante by adding some more goodies. I added a 2 sheer layers of Petites, Universe (a sheer gold shimmer with gold flakies) I deepend the gold at the cutical end with GOSH, Gold. To finish it up, I added a couple layers of Sally Girl, gold glittler (unnamed) which has with small and large hex glitters. Then I topped it all off with a layer of Seche Vite, Fast Dry Top Coat.

Another week, another nail design. This week I started with 2 coats of Zoya, Erika which is a GORGE pink with gold shimmer. Then using a striping brush I added thing stripes using CND, Anchor Blue. The formula of CND's opaque polishes is perfect for designs like this since it is so opaque. Only one coat is needed. I then topped it with Sinful Colors, Green Ocean which is a clear base with multi-sized flakes and glitters that reflect blue, green and gold. To be honest, I actually liked the whole thing better before the glitter coat since it's a little chunky. (BOO!) Sigh, there's always next week.

Mani Monday: Super Glitter Freak

Today's mani monday is a on glitter overload. I used one coat of Zoya, Jo as my background. Since it was going to be covered I didn't bother making it super even hence the lack of second coat. I did be careful to keep the edges nice. I then topped it with Sally Girl Sparkle Effects Loose Glitter, 388608 which is a multidimensional blue/green/purple. I dipped the brush of the clear into the glitter then spread it across each nail. I keep this clean for this specific technique. I applied two coats of the glitter/clean mix. I really love the effect this technique has but it really is a pain to get off. Oh well, it's worth it for the effect. Enjoy!

This week's Mani Monday is a fun little combo of Zoya, Jo and Jesse's Girl, Firefly. Jo is is AMAZE on it's own but when topped with the sheer green-gold of Firefly it turns into something really eye-cathching.

Bonus other angles:

Bonus shot of Zoya, Jo out in the wild with her soulmate Kitchenaide Stand mixer in Bloomingdales.
(ps. Santa, I want one please)
