It's officially late August but I am not ready to let summer go just yet. If you haven't jumped on the neon moment thats happening right now, what are you waiting for? Do it NOW! You don't have to look like a caution sign to do so.
If you're not quite sure if you can pull a neon off, try babysteps. Neon nails are amazing! If funky colors don't work for you (like yellow or green) try a neon pink or orange. Neon accent items really stand out and modernize an otherwise simple outfit. Pair a neutral shirtdress with a skinny neon belt. I bet you'll turn heads and get a few compliments. If you're feeling bolder, splurge on a great neon clutch bag. When paired with jeans and a simple top, the neon clutch amps up your style big time. If you have no fears of neon then by all means, go for the gold (or er, neon yellow) in a all neon dress. Trust me, they turn heads!
If you love the neon trend there is one thing to remember: one at a time. Pick one piece of neon per outfit. Layering neon is getting a little 80's.
Under a shady tree, next to the pond on the east lawn in central park a fabulous group of ladies united for crafts, chats and snacks. We could not have asked for a better weather. The craft dujour was the wrapped ball-chain bracelet which is great for all skill-levels of crafty folks. Its easy and quick to make with beautiful results. Jenni (@ISpyDIY) made like a half dozen in the couple of hours we were there. We even had some visitors including a ridiculously adorable frenchie puppy and an equally adorable little girl from one blanket over.
Thanks to @alwaysinstyleand @ISpyDIY for organizing, and guests @MissWhoeveryUR, @mizlizzle@frooblor and Erica (get on your twitter, lady!) who came out. A special shout out goes to M&J Trimming for hooking us up with some supplies for the event. We are planning on getting another craft-up together after summer so keep on the lookout for that. Perhaps a tie-dye craft up?
Satay Jewelry is having a sample sale for the next couple of days and I was invited over to take a look at the selection last night before the sale started. If you don't know much about the line, what you need to know is that its inspired by spiritual symbols. These symbols are meant to boost certain qualities and bring peace. Take a look through the gallery to see some of the beautiful pieces you can score for up to 80% off. I'm DYING over the cuff bracelets. They are to DIE for.
Hola kittens. It's been about a week since I have posted last. I had some family things to take care of in Ohio that kept me busy. I'm back in NYC now and happy to be getting back into the groove. Every time I'm in Ohio I stop by my favorite thrift stores and take a looksy around. Sometimes I walk away with one thing and other times I score HUGE. This time was the later. I found a whole bunch of great stuff including this amazing little Coach bag.
Since shoulder bags are clearly trending right now, I knew I just had to pick this up. I like it's understated design; only a tiny tag with a logo to be found. It's made of sturdy black leather and is stamped on the inside with the Coach seal and serial number. That means it's not a knockoff, dear kittens, because fake is NEVER in fashion. (but thrifting is!) The removable shoulder strap makes it great for taking care of business and then seamlessly changing to night mode with a few quick un-clippings.
A few thrifting tricks:
• Inspect each item from top to bottom for irreparable damage.
• When thrifting handbags, it's best to stay away from designer-looking bags, unless you're in a high-end thrift/consignment store, it's probably a fake.
• Wear leggings, a camisole or other tight-fitting clothes. Most thrift stores don't have fitting rooms and sometimes you need to just try before you buy!
Share some of your favorite thrifted items or thrifting tips in the comments.
So right around the time I decided I wanted a new pair of glasses I saw the Hipster Disney meme floating aorund. Does that mean geek-chic is officially out? NAH. Probably not. Its still pretty funny though...
Obviously I had a few reservations about buy glasses online. To ease in to it, I signed up with Warbyparker.com to try out 5 pairs of glasses to try at home. You pick out 5 pairs and they send them right now in a cool box for FREE! You try them out for a few days and then send them back. You can either buy or choose 5 different frames. The best part about it is that one pair, with prescription lenses, only costs $95! Its such a great deal. You do however need to make sure you have a current prescription.
All the frames are plastic and vintage inspired so if that's not your style, then this may not work for you. Here are the choices, letter and named. Click to enlarge the pictures. So help me pick out my new spiffy frames!
I have been eyeballing theKate Spade Sugar Coat Bracelet for a couple months now. It has all the things I look for in an accessory: glitter, metallic and boldness. Its currently marked down from $225 to $157 with an extra 25% off at checkout (NEWYEARS25) since its a sale item.
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last year you've probably seen Diesel's "Be Stupid" ad campaign. They created a kick-ass watch to go right along with their now-famous tagline. It's got a black screen with red LED readout that tells time, date and scrolls "BE STUPID."
Diesel's website describes this watch: Sport your own futuristic, super-hero style with this monochromatic timeframe from Diesel. It features a blue/purple/grey/black/white or glow-in-the-dark silicone strap and a blacked-out digital display with red LED numbers for that biting edge we all need.
Note: It's filed under MEN on the website, but I think this is can be a unisex watch.
WHO: The superhero who's always late WHAT: Digital watch with red LED readout on black screen, silicone band (DZ163, DZ164,DZ165, DZ166, DZ167, DZ168) PRICE: $100 AVAILABILITY: Dieseltimeframes.com
New series alert! From now until Christmas I am going to give all you kittens gift suggestions. Yes, I am aware that its not even thanksgiving yet. I don't care! I'm in the spirit!
The Designer's description: Doily Scarf with Vintage Crochet Lace and Shabby Silk Ribbons. Tea-dipped and strung together 18 exquisitely handmade vintage doilies to compose this heirloom scarf. You’ll love how the creamy silk catches the sunlight and its unraveled edges form gossamer threads! Each circular crocheted doily is approximately 4 inches (or 10.16 cm) and is securely joined so the doilies can turn and hang in a cascading fashion. A flirty little piece of romantic fluff, the Talullah scarf is the perfect accessory for your vintage wedding; she makes a delightful gift for hopeless romantics and could well be the prettiest feather in the nest!
This really is a fantastically beautiful accessory. I THINK the designer creates one of a kind pieces so I am not sure how long this will be available. Another item of hers that I had my eye on was snatched up yesterday. So if you want this baby, GET ON IT!
